- Story Text: Russian police have detonated a bomb found outside a
central Moscow synagogue. There were no injuries or deaths.
Members of Moscow's central Lubavitch Synagogue said
they discovered a suspicious-looking object in their house of
worship as they gathered on Sunday afternoon (July 25).
Police evacuated the area and closed off approaching
streets to the Lubavitch Synagogue as a security precaution
before using a robot to inspect the suspect package.
The object exploded as the police robot was examining it.
Police said that they had initiated the explosion as a
security precaution.
Nobody was killed or injured.
Moscow has seen a series of anti-Semitic acts in recent
months, including the bombing of another Lubavitch synagogue
in May.
Earlier this month the director of the Jewish cultural
Centre at Moscow's Choral Synagogue was wounded in a knife
attack at the synagogue complex.
