  • Story Text: A series of bombs rocked the city of Beirut during the night and early morning of Saturday-Sunday (April 8-9). One man was killed and at least three more injured in two heavily-populated areas of the Lebanese capital. Heavy material damage was also ???used.

    Following the five explosions, Prime Minister Saeb Salam called an emergency meeting of the Internal Security Council to makes a review of the security throughout the country. The Prime Minister also told reporters that several arrests had already been made - primarily that of a man called Mahmoud Doha, who had surrendered confessing that he and another man (also called Mahmoud Doha) had planted the bombs. He said that the second Mahmoud Doha had died when one of their bombs had exploded in his hands.

    When he was asked whether he thought people from outside were behind the bombings, the Prime Minister replied: "Maybe."
    SYNOPSIS: The aftermath of a bomb explosion in the heavily-populated district of Ras, in Beirut. Five bombs had rocked the Lebanese capital during the night of Saturday-Sunday - killing one man, injuring at least three others, and causing heavy material damage.

    The dead man is reported to have been one of the bombers - Mahmoud Doha - who was killed when a bomb exploded in his hands.
