- Story Text: Bomb explodes near Iraq army patrol, kills civilian,
wounds two others. A second car bomb near U.S.
convoy wounds at least three.
A car bomb exploded near an Iraqi army patrol close
to Baghdad's international airport on Tuesday (April 5, 2005),
killing one civilian and wounding two others, police
sources said.
Police at the site said that the car bomb was targeting
a U.S. military convoy in the area.
"At 0900 o'clock (0500 GMT) in the morning, a car bomb
exploded near a U.S. convoy, damaging one civilian car,
killing one civilian and wounding two others."
The thunderous explosion shook buildings in the airport
and was heard across the south-western part of the capital.
In another attack, a car bomb exploded near a U.S.
convoy in Baghdad's southern neighbourhood of Dora,
wounding three civilians, police said.
According to police sources, the car bomb damaged a
U.S. military vehicle and a civilian car.
The U.S. military had no immediate comments on the
attack.
Insurgents fighting to overthrow Iraq's U.S.-backed
government are increasingly targeting Iraqi and U.S.
convoys and checkpoints with suicide car bombs.
U.S. officers say this shows that insurgents are
finding it harder to attack better protected targets.
