- Story Text: Two Israeli soldiers have been wounded by a bomb blast
near a Jewish settlement in Gaza. Two road-side bombs exploded
as a convoy of Israeli vehicles drove along a road near the
settlement.
At least two Israeli soldiers were wounded on
Wednesday (September 27), one seriously, when two roadside
bombs exploded in the Gaza Strip as a convoy of Jewish
settlers cars drove past.
Israeli soldiers guard Jewish settlements in Gaza and the
West Bank from attack by militant Palestinians calling for
territory claimed by settlers to be returned.
One of the wounded was in serious condition with a head
injury and the other was lightly hurt in the leg. The wounded
were treated on site before being taken to Israel for further
medical treatment.
The Israeli army said it was checking the report and would
not comment on the incident.
A spokesman for the Netzarim Jewish settlement said two
bombs exploded as the convoy of settler cars, escorted by
Israeli military vehicles, drove towards the settlement. He
said
the cars were also sprayed with bullets.
A Palestinian security official near the scene, Captain
Zeki Abu Assal, said at least four Israelis were wounded in
the incident.
The area near the Netzarim Jewish settlement has been
particularly tense since eight Palestinians were injured when
their vehicle collided with an Israeli car earlier in the week.
The militant Islamic group Hamas has threatened to attack
Jewish settlers who live in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,
areas Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war, and
Palestinians want for a future state.
