- Story Text: Parcel bomb kills three members of same family in
Kashmir.
A bomb wrapped as a gift exploded in a home in
India's Kashmir overnight on Friday (May 13), killing three
family members, the latest in a string of bomb attacks in
the volatile and disputed region.
The device, placed in a box, went off near Bijbehara
town, 45 km (28 miles) south of Srinagar, the summer
capital of Indian Kashmir where a separatist Muslim revolt
against New Delhi's rule since 1989 has killed over 45,000
people.
The explosion killed 45-year-old bus driver Mohammad
Syed Kakroo, his 22-year-old son and his 20-year-old
daughter. His wife was wounded.
Police say they are not clear why Kakroo, a driver, was
targeted. No militant group has claimed responsibility.
The blast came weeks after India and Pakistan agreed to
a bus service linking Indian and Pakistani Kashmir, a move
seen as a boost to a flagging peace process between the
historic rivals.
Later on Friday, hundreds of school children marched
through Sringar to protest against a separate bomb attack.
Suspected rebels detonated a grenade next to a Christian
missionary school in the heart of Srinagar on Thursday,
killing two women and wounding about 50 people, including
20 children.
