- Story Text: Iraqi demonstrators carrying banners
reading "Yes for Freedom" marched to the site of a bomb blast
in which 18 Italians and nine Iraqis died.
The demonstrators marched on Saturday (November 15)
from the centre of the southern Iraqi town of Nassiriya to
an Italian military police base which was the target of a
suicide car bomb attack on November 12.
16 Italian soldiers, two Italian civilians and nine
Iraqis were killed and at least 20 Italians and more than
80 Iraqis were wounded in the attack on November 12.
One banner carried by the demonstrators marching in
Nassiriya on Saturday read: "Not for systematic
infiltration and terrorism. Yes for freedom"
The coffins of the 18 Italian nationals who died in the
attack were expected back in Italy on Saturday. A state
funeral for them is to being held in Rome on Tuesday
(November 18).
