- Story Text: Suicide bomber explodes his car next to convoy of
followers of Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, killing four.
A suicide bomber blew himself up his car next to a
convoy of cars belonging to followers of radical Shi'ite
cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, killing four Iraqis and wounding
eight on Thursday (August 4), police said.
They said that some of the wounded suffered serious
injuries.
The convoy was struck in an area called Daquq as it was
heading back to Baghdad after sending aid to the troubled
northern Iraqi town of Tal Afar a day earlier.
Kirkuk's oil wealth is a source of dispute between
rival ethnic groups in the city -- Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen
-- and it has seen significant violence over the past year
or so.
