- Story Text: A suspected car bomb exploded in the central Israeli
city of Or Yehuda, an Israeli police spokeswoman said.
Israel Radio reported two people had been lightly
wounded in the blast on Monday (April 23) about 10 km (five
miles) from Israel's main city of Tel Aviv.
The radio reported the explosion was apparently caused by
a car bomb placed by Palestinian militants.
But a police spokeswoman said: "It could be a car bomb,
but the criminal angle is also being investigated."
The explosion occurred a day after a Palestinian suicide
bomber blew himself up in a crowd of Israelis in the town of
Kfar Saba, killing one Israeli and wounding more than 40 others.
Tzvika, a witness to the car bomb in Or Yehuda, told Army
Radio: "I was on the roof of a nearby building behind the
explosion and I saw a car explode, The cars surrounding it
also began to blow up."
Palestinian president Yasser Arafat rebuffed suggestions
that he was responsible for the latest bomb and the actions of
the suicide bomber in Kfar Saba on Sunday (April 22).
"I want to be very clear, we are against any and every
operation targeting civilians, whether they are Israelis or
Palestinians," Arafat said through an interpreter.
Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian teenager on
Monday and wounded 14 others during a funeral procession near
the Khan Younis refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.
