- Story Text: Hoax bomb scare at east London mosque.
Armed police surrounded a mosque in east London on Friday (July 22) after a bomb threat but a search found no trace of any device and the alert was called off, police said.
The area around the East London mosque and London Muslim Centre in
Whitechapel was cordonned off after the mosque authorities alerted the police to a bomb threat at around 1025 local time (0925GMT).
"There was a bomb scare and our director, he asked the police to
check and police evacuated and they check and they found nothing and
everything is normal, that's the story, nothing else,"Dr Muhammad Abdul
Bari, chairman of the East London Mosque said.
"What it tells us, is that the terrorists or the extremists or
whatever you can call those who are the scaremongers, they don't want us to live in peace. So we want to give a message that we want to live in peace and the solidarity is there," Bari said.
