- Story Text: Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid has said he
believes Tuesday's bomb explosion outside the Jakarta
residence of the Manila envoy to Indonesia was linked to
violence in the southern Philippines.
The midday blast killed one woman, wounded Manila's
Ambassador, Leonides Caday, and hurt dozens more people.
" We heard that the Philippines' Ambassador has been taken
to the hospital and we hope he gets well soon. And we deeply
regret the bombing incident," Wahid said, after attending a
political meeting in Yogyakarta.
Wahid said he would telephone Philippine President
Joseph Estrada to express his sympathies. He added he had
ordered the police to probe the blast.
Philippine rebels recently declared a jihad, or holy
war, against Estrada's government after Manila troops captured
the rebel's biggest base on the southern island of Mindanao.
