- Story Text: Indonesian police have handed over Bali bomb suspect
Amrozi to prosecution officials for further investigation.
Amrozi's dossier was the first to be handed over to the
prosecution on Friday (March 7) and could signal that the
much-anticipated trials of the key suspects in last year's
deadly bombings may begin in late April.
Police blame the militant Southeast Asian network Jemaah
Islamiah for the blasts which tore through Bali's popular Kuta
beach area.
The trials are expected to draw world attention especially
from Australia, Indonesia's southern neighbour which lost
around 90 people in the bombings.
But Bali provincial spokesman I Gde Nurjaya said Balinese
people would be advised not to attend the trials.
Bali authorities have decided the trials will be conducted
at two venues, a district court and a hall in the local
Denpasar, amid security concerns among lawyers.
Police, who have been beefing up security in Bali for
weeks in preparation for the trials, have arrested 29
Indonesians over the blasts which killed 202 people, most of
them foreign tourists.
