- Story Text: At least two children were killed and others others
wounded in a bomb blast at their primary school in Kerbala
and a roadside bomb went off as a U.S. convoy was passing
by in centra Baghdad, causing injuries, an eyewitness said.
A bomb planted in a classroom of a primary school in
the southern Iraqi city of Kerbala went off during school
hours on Wednesday (November 19), killing at least two
school boys, eyewitnesses said.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack in the
holy Shi'ite city 55 miles south of Baghdad.
A child with severe leg and stomach injuries was taken
to Kerbala hospital, where a doctor said that he suffered
of severe leg and stomach wounds.
The doctor, Mohamed Fadel, said he believed that at
least two children were killed in the attack that took
place on Wednesday noon.
On November 3, a bomb exploded outside a hotel used by
Iranian pilgrims in Kerbala, killing three people.
On Thursday (November 20) morning, a U.S. convoy of
two vehicles struck a bomb planted on the roadside in the
central Shalchiya area of Baghdad near al-Karkh hospital,
witnesses said.
People who were in the area when the attack happened
said a roadside bomb exploded while the convoy was driving
near a bridge in the area.
"At about 8:00 o'clock in the morning, we heard a loud
explosion and as we saw a civilian car was damaged and
three Americans were injured," said Raid Kadhim, member of
the protection forces of Al-Karkh Hospital.
U.S. soldiers deployed to the site immediately after
the attack, sealing off the roads leading to the site of
the attack and searching the area for the suspects behind
the attack.
There is no confirmation from the U.S. military of the
attack.
Faced with a mounting security crisis, U.S. troops
have stepped up their campaign against Iraqi insurgents,
going after them with massive firepower before they have a
chance to strike.
The U.S. 1st Armoured Divisions 3rd Brigade launched
"Operation Iron Hammer" this week, deploying into the
roughest parts of Baghdad to ferret out the attackers who
have killed scores of U.S. troops since Iraqi leader Saddam
Hussein was ousted in April.
