- Story Text: A car bomb blast has killed two and injured at least
four others in the Iraqi capital.
A car bomb exploded in a Baghdad street on Tuesday
(June 22) as a convoy of U.S. troops and Iraqi police drove
past, killing two Iraqi bystanders, police said.
They said a bodyguard of Iraqi minister of state Adnan
al-Janabi was killed. Janabi himself was not in the area.
A girl was also killed in the blast.
"A car drove past and then reversed and then the car
exploded in his face. I was in the car with my daughter,
she died" said the girl's father who was also injured in
the blast.
At least four other people were wounded in the blast.
"Two of them are badly burnt and they were also hit with
shrapnel and the two others were children who were hit with
shrapnel " said doctor Jamal Taha of Yarmouk hospital.
U.S. and Iraqi officials have warned that guerrillas
will step up a campaign of car bombs and assassinations as
the June 30 formal handover of sovereignty to an Iraqi
government approaches.
