- Story Text: Eight people were hurt on Monday (27 October ) when a bomb exploded outside a small hotel on Shamai street, Jerusalem.
The explosion came as inhabitants of the occupied West Bank of Jordan began voting in the first village council elections since Israel captured the region in 1967.
Among the eight injured were two tourists, both from Switzerland, two Israelis and an Arab hotel porter.
All the injured were in the hotel lobby when a car blew up in front of the building. Police said later that the car had been stolen. They said another explosive charge was found nearby but had been safely dismantled by a police expert.
The blast shattered windows in surrounding buildings and destroyed another car which was parked nearby.
The results of the village council election will not be known for some time yet as balloting is spread over two weeks.
The election is part of a campaign by Israel to give West Bank Arabs more control of their environment, particularly in education, agriculture and social affairs.
