  • Story Text: One Hamas militant killed and two others wounded in an explosion in Rafah, Gaza.
    One Hamas militant was killed and two other were wounded when an explosion hit a Hamas security force lookout point in Rafah, Gaza on Wednesday (October 3), Hamas spokesman and medics said.
    A spokesman from Hamas said that an Israeli warplane struck the lookout point, but Israeli army spokeswoman said ' they were not involved'.
    It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion.
    Palestinian medics said they received three seriously wounded Hamas members and said later that one person died of injuries while being transferred to another hospital.
    Israel regularly launches pinpointed attacks against militants in the Gaza Strip to try to curb cross-border rockets fired by Palestinian militants into nearby Israeli towns.
    Earlier on Tuesday (October 2), Israel sent 29 prisoners home to the territory as part of an attempt to bolster President Mahmoud Abbas of the secular Fatah faction ahead of a U.S.-sponsored conference on Palestinian statehood.
