- Story Text: Routine testing at an area factory caused the blast heard at South Africa's Soccer City during the World Cup tournament on Sunday (june 20), police said.
Reuters reporters at the stadium heard a loud boom and later witnessed a plume of smoke.
South African Police Services spokesman Eugene Opperman told Reuters the blast was caused by testing at an explosive factory in the western suburbs of Johannesburg, some distance away from the stadium.
