- Story Text: A loud explosion shook Croatia's capital Zagreb on Wednesday morning (January 23).
The blast occurred at around 02:30 local time (0130 GMT) at the main square in Zagreb city centre, a security guard told Reuters Television.
There were no injuries as the square was empty at the time, and no visible damage could be seen on nearby buildings.
"Exactly at 2:30 a loud detonation (was heard). A few minutes after, about a dozen police vehicles, both patrol cars and unmarked, came here. They first went towards Kaptol (north of square), but several minutes later they realised that a bomb had been placed near the statue (on main square). It was a powerful explosion, there was nobody to be seen, the square was empty, there were no people around," said Darko Emirsic, security guard from a nearby bank.
Police sealed off the area and investigation teams arrived on site soon after the explosion, but no official comments were released. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
