- Story Text: An explosion at the Greek Embassy in Argentina shatters windows and echoes embassy blasts seen in Europe.
A small explosion broke windows at the Greek Embassy in Buenos Aires early on Thursday (December 30) but caused little other damage and no injuries, police said.
No one took immediate responsibility for the blast, which echoed of a string of explosions at government installations in Europe.
An embassy employee who declined to give his name told Reuters he was called in early to work and that there were no injuries in the attack.
"They called me in to come here, but I don't know what time it happened," the unidentified employee said.
"Do you know if anyone was hurt?" asked Reuters.
"No, there wasn't [anyone hurt]," the employee answered.
"Was anyone here at the time?" he was asked.
"No, no," answered the employee before returning to work.
A police spokes person confirmed that no one was hurt and said the blast occurred at about 2:30 a.m. local time (05:30 GMT).
The blast shattered windows in the building across the street leaving debris scattered on the street and sidewalk below.
Though unclear who the perpetrators were, the use of explosives was reminiscent of similar blasts seen in Europe in recent days.
In Greece on Thursday, a powerful explosion shook central Athens, destroying several cars and damaging a courthouse and other nearby buildings, but no one was hurt.
An explosive package found at the Greek Embassy in Rome was defused earlier this week, just days after Italian anarchists claimed responsibility for separate blasts at the
Swiss and Chilean embassies in the same city.
Far-left militants sent parcel bombs to foreign governments and embassies in Athens in November.
