  • Story Text: One British tourist was seriously injured and several others received minor injuries after a bus belonging to Pollmans Tours lost control and veered off the road in Mombasa early Saturday (March 02) morning.
    The accident caused a massive traffic snarl up that left hundreds of other motorists and passengers stranded for several hours.
    The injured were taken to Mombasa and Aga Khan hospitals.
    Regional traffic police chief, Joshua Omukata said the driver of the bus that was carrying eighteen passengers was headed to Moi International Airport (MIA). Fifteen of those in the bus were injured while one was in critical condition.
    "It is an accident involving tourists, that's a bus belonging to Pollman's company which was coming from Bamburi on its way to the airport, on reaching this end, the driver lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road landing on the oncoming lane as a result the fifteen tourists that were inside the vehicle were injured among them one was seriously injured and she is being treated at one of the hospitals in Mombasa. This bus was carrying a capacity of eighteen passengers," said Omukata.
    Most tourist hotels in the coastal city of Mombasa are reporting cancellations due general elections on Monday.
