- Story Text: Foreign investigators on Friday (August 9) joined their Kenyan colleagues in an investigation into a fire that damaged a large part of Kenya's Jomo Kenyatta Airport.
The airport was forced to close on Wednesday (August 7) after a fire swept through the international arrivals building early in the morning.
Wednesday was the 15th anniversary of an attack by Islamist militants on the U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital of neighbouring Tanzania.
Local newspapers reported on Friday that experts from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and others from Israel had joined in the probe into the cause of the fire.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is sub-Saharan Africa's fourth busiest airport and the largest in the east Africa region.
The fire is a blow to Kenya at the start of the peak tourism season.
The horticulture industry, another major foreign exchange earner for east Africa's biggest economy, was also preparing for losses. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
