- Story Text: Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during his first state visit to China on Tuesday (August 20).
Kenyatta and Li met at the Diaoyutai state guesthouse where the two shook hands and attended a short meeting with Kenyan and Chinese delegates present.
On Monday (August 19) Kenyatta met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and jointly oversaw the signing of agreements between China and Kenya covering economic, resources, energy, and agricultural cooperation.
China has extended its economic influence on the African continent in recent years, winning road construction tenders in Kenya, signing deals for construction of energy projects in Uganda as well as running mining projects in various countries.
In the past, China's drive to secure minerals, oil and a place for its workers and industries to thrive has converged with Kenyan government plans to tap the potential of undeveloped regions. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
