- Story Text: Newly-released CCTV footage from Nairobi's Westgate mall appears to show Kenyan soldiers removing items from a supermarket during a four-day siege at the shopping centre last month.
The footage shows groups of soldiers entering the Nakumatt supermarket and some of them leaving again with plastic shopping bags and other items in their hands.
Other soldiers appear to be going through items at various counters next to the supermarket entrance.
Kenyan Members of Parliament and Army spokesmen investigating the attack have repeatedly denied allegations that troops stole from the shopping centre's stores, during the four-day stand-off with Al Shabaab gunmen.
Instead, they have accused business owners of using the allegations as a way of getting compensation from insurance firms.
This, they say, is due to the fact that most business owners in the mall had insurance policies that covered them for theft, but not for terrorism.
The official death toll from the September attack remains at 61 civilians, six soldiers and five attackers, although more bodies have been recovered from the rubble at the rear of the mall in the last few days. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
