- Story Text: Dozens of people braved the Paris drizzle to stage a major snowball fight in the heart of the French capital on Wednesday (October 21).
Packed onto a barge, with house music blaring in the background and helped on by a tipple of vodka, two groups of people pelted snowballs at each other, as they took a trip down the river Seine.
The event was organised by a French skiing resort to mark one month to the opening of the season and to convince residents in the French capital to forget about recession and global warming and to head for the hills.
With ten large containers filled with snow and both teams of snowballers equipped with gloves and snow goggles, the scene looked just like it was the middle of winter.
The snow however, was completely artificial.
"This is artificial snow. We didn't bring it down from Val Thorens! That snow we're saving and the good news is it started snowing today," said Marienoel Turc, Head of Val Thorens.
The fight certainly came as a surprise to passing tourists, whose boats came under fire from the youths who had signed up to the event on a social networking site. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
