- Story Text: Moscow firefighters have rescued Russia's Emergency
Ministry -- the government department responsible for battling
all major disasters and catastrophes -- from a fire that broke
out in their head office.
Twenty fire trucks raced to the Russian Emergency
Ministry Headquarters in central Moscow early Friday (November
24) morning to battle flames.
The fire broke out on the ministry's sixth floor, which
houses the ministry's leadership and the office of the
Emergency Minister.
No injuries or deaths were reported and the flames had been
subdued before most of the ministry staff had arrived for
work.
Firefighters contained the flames to about 30 square metres
in the building. The ministry building was built in the
mid-1900s with wooden frames and several interior hollows that
would have allowed flames to spread rapidly.
