- Story Text: Renewed fighting breaks out in the turbulent city of
Falluja.
Explosions and gunfire rocked the turbulent city of
Falluja for a second day on Friday (June 25) after
coordinated attacks in other Iraqi cities killed about 100
people less than a week before Iraq's new government takes
power.
The fighting shattered a truce reached on Thursday (June
24) on an unconditional ceasefire by U.S. forces and a
number of Falluja Muslim clerics.
U.S. tanks and armoured vehicles manoeuvred on the
highway near the edges of Falluja, firing in all
directions, while armed men in an eastern suburb returned
fire.
There were no confirmed reports yet on casualties.
Falluja, part of the so-called Sunni Triangle to the
west of Baghdad is a hotbed of attacks against U.S. forces.
The city was one of the five Iraqi cities which were
hit by a string of bloody attacks on Thursday.
