  • Story Text: French special forces based in Sarajevo killed a sniper gunman on Thursday (February 1) in the Serb-held suburb of Ilidza.

    A second gunman was also seized.

    French Implementation Force (IFOR) spokesman Richard Pernod said the snipers had attacked several times in the last few days and that IFOR soldiers had decided to "neutralise" them.

    One Sniper was injured and later died despite receiveing medical attention from military docotors, Pernod said.

    IFOR is in charge of guaranteeing security in Sarajevo and its Western suburbs and continued their demining operation between the Jewish cemetery and Grbavica.
