- Story Text: The United Nations observers being held hostage by Georgian gunmen say they are being well treated and hope to be released.The standoff at Zugdidi is now in its third day.
Hundreds of soldiers on Saturday (February 21) surrounded a remote farmhouse near Dzhikhashkari in the west of Georgia where gunmen, who support Georgia's late President Zviad Gamsakhurdia, are holding their captives.
The kidnappers are demanding the release of suspects arrested after last week's assassination attempt on President Eduard Shevardnadze.
The four U.N.staff, two Uruguayans, a Czech and a Swede, are military observers on a United Nations mission in the nearby breakaway province of Abkhasia.

One of the hostages Marten Moggart, a Swede, told Reuters Television they were being well treated, had no problems, and hoped the efforts of the Georgian government, the United Nations and their own respective governments would result in their release.
