- Story Text: A gunman has opened fire on the car of Moscow's deputy
mayor, wounding him and killing his driver.
The car of deputy mayor Iosif Ordzhonikidze, who is in
charge of international economic ties, came under fire on
Tuesday (December 19) at around 9:15 a.m. (0615 GMT). The
front and side windows of the car were riddled with bullets.
News agency reports said two masked gunmen had shot at the
car with armour-piercing bullets, lightly wounding the deputy
mayor in the thigh and killing his driver.
A few months ago one of Ordzhonikidze's aides also came
under fire while on his way to work by car. He was not hurt in
the attack.
Ordzhonikidze was recently involved in signing an
agreement to build Russia's first top-class international
motorsport circuit at a cost of around $100 million.
He also deals with the organisation and use of hard
currency in Moscow, measures for regulating currency
expenditure in the city and attracting foreign investment.
