"Today at 2.35 am the signal from this plane disappeared from the radars. Later it became clear that this plane crashed less than a kilometre away from the airport," said Pavel Seliverstov, official from the Investigative Committee under the Russian Prosecutor-general.
"There were eight people on board, four of them are seriously injured and four others sustained lighter injuries," he said.
RIA Novosti news agency said the Russian TU-204 Aviastar-TU jet, which originated from Hurghada in Egypt, was approaching one of the landing strips of Domodedovo, one of Russia's largest airports, in thick fog.
