- Story Text: A small plane crashes in Ukraine, killing five Czech citizens on Sunday.
A small chartered plane flying from the Czech Republic to Kiev crashed near the Ukrainian capital on Sunday (December 9) killing all five people on board.
The plane, a Beechcraft B9L, came down near Kiev's second and smaller airport, Zhylyani, in a field 300 metres from a main road. There were two pilots and three passengers on board. No one on the ground was hurt.
Eye-witnesses spoke of running towards the wreckage of the plane hoping to find survivors but it was too late.
Jan Padourek, first secretary at the Czech Embassy in Kiev, told Czech television the five victims were all Czech citizens.
Ukraine's Emergency Situations Minister Nestor Shufrich said it was too early to say what caused the crash but the possibility of a human error would be part of the investigation.
Czech TV quoted a Czech embassy official in Kiev as saying the plane came from the eastern Czech city of Hradec Kralove. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
