Most of people in the bus came from the Belgian towns of Heverlee and Lommel, both situated in the Dutch speaking region of Flanderen. The children were on the way back from a ski-trip when it crashed into the wall of a tunnel at Sierre in Switzerland, killing 28 people, 22 of them children, police said.
The bus was transporting 52 as it was heading back to Belgium from a skiing holiday camp, police said. 28 people died in the crash, of which 22 children, police said.
