- Story Text: Belgium was in shock on Wednesday (March 14) morning as the news of a deadly bus crash in Switzerland carrying Belgian school children became known.
Most of people in the bus came from the Belgian towns of Heverlee and Lommel, both situated in the Dutch speaking region of Flanderen. The children were on the way back from a ski-trip when it crashed into the wall of a tunnel at Sierre in Switzerland, killing 28 people, 22 of them children, police said.
The bus was transporting 52 as it was heading back to Belgium from a skiing holiday camp, police said. 28 people died in the crash, of which 22 children, police said.
Police was present at the primary school St Lambertus in Heverlee on Wednesday morning, and parents who were bringing their children to school were seen comforting each other as they heard the news. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
