- Story Text: A rescue team have found bodies but no survivors in the wreckage of a Russian passenger jet that crashed into a volcano in Indonesia during an exhibition flight with 45 people on board.
Indonesia deployed more than 1,000 personnel and seven helicopters to reach the crash location in the mountainous region of West Java Province, about 2,000 meters (6,561 feet) above sea level.
The Mount Salak area is known for its steep terrain. Footage from the site showed debris from the Superjet 100 aircraft strewn down the mountainside.
The search and rescue agency said it will begin an evacuation process, but strong winds, thick smog and the steep location of the crash site are hampering efforts.
The plane went missing on Wednesday (May 9) about 40 miles (60 km) south of Jakarta.
Among the victims were Indonesian reporters and businessmen, eight Russians including embassy officials, pilots and technicians, two Italians, a French citizen and an American, officials said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
