- Story Text: Rescuers continued to transport bags containing the remains of over 40 victims from the wreckage of a Russian plane crash at Indonesia's Mount Salak on Monday (May 14).
Officials said 20 bags have so far been sent from the area to a police hospital with a forensics laboratory in the capital Jakarta.
Search and rescue teams are working around the clock to accelerate the process which has been hampered by tough terrain.
"The rescuers are still using the same helipad as the one we used from day one. Our personnel up there are working to widen the helipad, so more than one helicopter can land to speed up the process," said Tabir, the Bogor Airbase Commander.
Some 80 Russian rescue, aeronautical and forensic experts have arrived in Indonesia to work together with the local rescue team.
The Superjet 100 aircraft crashed in the Mount Salak area during an demonstration flight last week.
It was carrying Indonesians, including journalists and businessmen, eight Russians, including embassy officials, pilots and technicians, two Italians, one French citizen and an American, officials said.
Indonesian officials said the Russian team will focus on investigating the cause of the accident and recovering the wreckage. The local Indonesian team will handle moving the victims' remains. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
