- Story Text: German relatives of the Concorde crash victims who had
not yet been able to come to the crash scene, have been
invited to Gonesse to give them an opportunity to collect
their thoughts at the actual site of the accident.
Parents and friends of the German victims of last
month's Air France Concorde crash gathered on Saturday (August
26) at the site of the hotel destroyed when the plane went
down in flames, killing 113 people.
About sixty people escorted by police wandered around the
crash site for about two hours, alone or small groups,
depositing flowers or just taking photographs of the bare
ground where signs of the crash were already fading.
Strong police forces kept the press well away from the
discreet gathering that took place on the outkirts of the
small town of Gonesse, near the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle
airport.
Of the 100 Concorde passengers, 97 were German tourists on
the first leg of a luxury Caribbean cruise holiday. Nine crew
members and four people on the ground were also killed when
the New York-bound jet plunged out of the sky in a ball of
fire and crashed into a hotel on July 25, only minutes after
taking off.
