- Story Text: Four people have died and two are seriously injured
after a freight train crashed into a rail trolley that was
repairing a track in Austria.
The accident happened on Monday (October 7, 2002) between
the town of Melk and Klein Poechlarnin the the province of Lower
Austria, some 80 km (50 miles) west of the capital Vienna.
"A goods train was coming in one direction and people were
working on the line. Because of the bend the train could not
stop and it smashed into the worker's trolley, destroying it
completely," said the Head of the Austrian railways, Ruediger
Vorm Walde, at the scene of the accident.
A Red Cross rescue team later airlifted the injured to a
nearby hospital by helicopter.
