- Story Text: Four people died on Wednesday, when their light
airplane crashed in Sintra, Portugal, shortly after taking off
from the Cascais aerodrome.
The accident occurred on Wednesday (July 3, 2002) in the
Sintra hill, 30 kilometres north from Lisbon, where rescue
workers found the wreckage of the small plane.
The names of the four victims were not released, but a
spokesman for the Portuguese Aviation authority said they were
a British pilot, an Australian couple and one American
citizen.
The spokesman could not yet give a reason for the
accident.
But the pilot of the plane, a Piper 32R 301T Turbo
Saratoga, had reported bad weather in the region, 26 minutes
after taking off on their way to the northern city of Oporto.
