- Story Text: Oscar hopeful Kate Winslet was among the stars who showed up at the Oscar Wilde pre-Oscar Party in Los Angeles on Thursday night (February 20, 2009). The event, sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance, celebrated the long running relationship between Ireland and Hollywood.
Among those being honoured included Brendan Gleeson, Hylda Queally and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
Best Actress nominee Winslet graced the green carpet for luck ahead of Sunday's Academy Award's (February 22, 2009).
"You know it is nerve wracking," Winlset told Reuters. "I think its very nerve wracking, OK! It is really scary. I'm very excited but you know its a big moment in anyone's life. The fact that I've been through this before seems to make no difference as to the level of nerves. But, I'm very excited."
Also attending was young star, Freida Pinto.
"It's kind of a blurb," explained the actress, who stars in "Slumdog Millionaire," the film many consider to be the favourite for the Best Picture honour. "I wake up every morning, pinch myself and try to tell myself this is really happening. It really doesn't sink in, it is a wonderful journey and it is going to go on for a long time. It is going to take a long time to sink in and it is going to be with me forever."
