- Story Text: Deputy Editor at Rolling Stone talks about a Rolling Stone interview with Britney Spears who is on the cover of the latest issue of the magazine. The star is coming back with a new album and television special.
Get ready for a Britney blitz. Pick up a copy of Rolling Stone - there she is, go to the record store - there's her new album and tune in to MTV - you guessed it- there's the new Britney special.
Caryn Ganz, deputy editor of RollingStone.com says, "Britney is definitely back. This new album "Circus" is great. She's dancing, she's singing, she's definitely back. But at what price has this comeback come, what price has it cost her. Ultimately, it seems that it's cost her her own personal freedom."
In Rolling Stone's feature on the pop star, the magazine says the man pulling the strings is none other than Britney's father, Jamie Spears. He was named the conservator of her estate last February after her infamous breakdown and custody battle over her two sons.
Ganz says Rolling Stone's interview was very tightly controlled and that questions needed to be approved in advance. She says Britney is tightly monitored and that the singer's sadness and loneliness comes through in a few candid moments on the upcoming MTV documentary "For The Record."
"In the interviews you see a more honest raw Britney where she admits that she is scared and feels like she's in a prison. She basically has no control over her affairs and in these candid moments where she's speaking alone with the interviewer, she says 'I feel like I'm in a prison.' It's like ground hog day."
Ganz says Britney is trying to move forward in her personal life too, going on dates. However, she points out that even these private moments are tightly monitored.
While Britney has cleaned up and looks at lot healthier than a year ago, Ganz isn't convinced that she won't slip again.
"There's definitely a chance of another meltdown. She's 27 and I don't think she can live under her father's care forever. What about when she's 37 or even 30. Britney needs to wrestle control of her life back at some point. What that means for her career is a question mark. Will she be able to have a career? If she's in control of her own affairs will she have to turn off the cash machine? The Britney story is far from over."
And now might be a good time for that. Britney's album "Circus" which hits stores on December 2nd has received mainly favorable reviews. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
