- Story Text: Actress Dakota Fanning gets into character for her upcoming role in the 3-D children's tale, "Coraline."
Dakota Fanning has literally grown up with the film "Coraline," a children's story, adapted from a novel by Neil Gaiman. The "veteran" 15-year-old actress has long been attached to the project, the first stop-motion feature ever made in 3-D.
"It's great," explained Fanning. "I've been working on this character for five years. It is incredible to finally see it come out and to be able to voice her."
"Coraline," which has generated fair reviews, has the potential of a solid family hit.
The film takes on the classical "grass is always greener"
theme within the context of an old and mysterious house. Coraline Jones (voiced by Fanning) is an 11-year-old newly moved into the Pink Palace with her busy parents (Teri Hatcher and John Hodgman). Unfortunately, no one seems to have any time for her. Then she discovers a secret door and finds into an alternate reality of the Pink Palace.
The fantasy of the film is only heightened by the 3-D effects that make this world come brilliantly to life.
"I think it adds so much to this film," Fanning told Reuters.
"It really kind of sucks you in and makes you want to be in that world.
Which I definitely felt like I was when I was working on it and when I watched it."
Fanning, who's starred with the likes of Tom Cruise and Robert De Niro, certainly understands the duality of an alternate life.
"I go to high school right now, I'm a sophomore," said Fanning. "I enjoy that and I think it is great to be able to balance both. I'm lucky that I get to have that experience as well as do what I love to do."
