- Story Text: In the unlikely, picturesque setting of Luxembourg actors Stephen Baldwin and Gabrielle Anwar are deep in the midst of shooting "Crush Depth" - an action adventure set on board an American nuclear submarine disabled under the Arctic ice cap.
Produced by Daniel Sladek and Silvio Muraglia, "Crush Depth" pits the wits of three civilian scientists - Rick Postley (Stephen Baldwin), Laura Dyson (Gabrielle Anwar) and Dr. Harry Reinhardt (Tom Conti) - against the extremes of nature as they battle to save the stricken Los Angeles class nuclear submarine and it's trapped crew.
Following a catastrophic collision with a Russian submarine the U.S.S. Portland plunges to bottom of the Arctic Ocean trapping the crew in the rear of the vessel as the reactor leaks deadly radiation.
The three scientists, working in their mini-sub MERVYN, are dragged down with the sinking vessel but, with MERVYN still operational, they begin the race against time to board and raise the Portland back to the surface.
As Baldwin says "it's a tall order, but someone has to do it.
Don't try this at home".
Producer Silvio Muraglia describes the concept as ......
The dangers of shooting on location in the inhospital surroundings of Greenland were demostrated all to clearly in September when a cameraman died in a helicopter crash.
Co-producer Daniel Sladek described the tragedy and commended the quick thinking and bravery of third unit director, Rolf Buegler, who dived into the freezing waters and pulled the pilot from the wreckage.
Directed by Gregg Champion ("The Cowboy Way" and "Blue Thunder") "Crush Depth" is the third film jointly produced by the independent producers Sladek/Muraglio Filmworks ("Hidden Assassin" aka "The Shooter" and "Silent Trigger"). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
