- Story Text: Parents experiencing the panic of last-minute Christmas shopping will have sympathy with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the slapstick comedy "Jingle All the Way".
Schwarzenegger plays high-powered businessman Howard Langston, a man who loves his wife Liz, played by Rita Wilson, and son Jamie, played by Jake Lloyd, but who keeps missing important events in their lives.
Now it's Christmas, the most magical time of the year, and Jamie has his eyes set on the hottest toy of the season as a gift...Turbo Man( The toy is on every child's wish list and they're flying out of stores quicker than any dad can get his hands on them.
Langston decides he'll make up for all the missed karate lessons and school events and get his son the much-sought-after Turbo Man for Christmas. Easier said than done.
First off, it doesn't help that Langston has waited until Christmas Eve to shop for the gift. Also standing in his way is a crazed postman named Myron, played by Sinbad, who is out to claim the last Turbo man on the store shelves for his kid. Langston also has to deal with a shady Santa, played by James Belushi, as well as a tough policeman, Officer Hummell, played by Robert Conrad, whom Langston literally keeps running into.
"Saturday Night Live's" Phil Hartman plays Langston's touchy-feely neighbor, Ted, the so-called "perfect father",who even brought home a reindeer for his son this year. He also lends a hand at the Langston house while Howard is out searching for the last Turbo Man.
This is Schwarzenegger's first comedy since "Junior," with Danny DeVito. His other comic turns include the films "Twins," also with DeVito, and "Kindergarten Cop," which grossed over 200 million dollars worldwide.
But his greatest commercial success came with "Terminator 2: Judgment Day", which reunited him with director James Cameron and earned more than five hundred million dollars worldwide.
Schwarzenegger will next be seen in "Batman and Robin" where he will play the villainous Mr. Freeze.
Sinbad is best known on stage and television as an irreverant standup comic, but his feature films include "Houseguest" and "Coneheads", both also with Phil Hartman, and the recent feature comedy "First Kid".
Hartman's other film credits include "Sgt. Bilko" with Steve Martin, "Greedy" with Michael J. Fox, and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" with Whoopi Goldberg.
Rita Wilson has been seen playing opposite her real-life husband Tom Hanks in the films "Volunteers", "Sleepless in Seattle", and the recent "That Thing You Do(" "Jingle All the Way" is directed Brian Levant, who has helmed hit comedies "The Flintstones" and "Beethoven". The film was produced by Chris Columbus, who is best-known for directing the number one motion picture comedy of all time "Home Alone" and the hit follow-up "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York." Other credits of his include "Mrs. Doubtfire," and "Nine Months" with Hugh Grant.
To promote the film, 20th Century Fox recently held two big publicity events -- a life-size Turbo Man using a jet pack touched down in the middle of San Francisco's Embarcadero Square. He was greeted by Schwarzenegger, his wife Maria Shriver, and the film's producer Chris Columbus.
The second event was the film's world premiere, held in the giant Mall of the Americas in Minneapolis, Minnesota where much of the film was shot. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
