- Story Text: Aidan Quinn, Anthony LaPaglia and "Friends" star Courteney Cox take their "thou shalt not's" seriously in "Commandments" -- a modern-day re-telling of the story of Job.
Set in New York city, it's the story of Seth - played by Quinn - a man who's had enough of what life has thrown at him. He's lost his wife, his job and his house, and to him it's not a series of accidents, it's the wrath of God.
Seth believes God has it in for him, so he decides to take his life in his own hands for once and jump off a Manhattan rooftop.
Luckily, his former brother-in law, Harry, comes to his rescue.
When Harry brings the newly homeless and jobless Seth home with him, his wife Rachel - played by Courteney Cox - decides to takes him in.
It soon becomes clear Seth believes God has decided to test him. Believing himself to be at the mercy of a vengeful power, Seth pushes his theory to its limit and sets out to break each of the Ten Commandments.
As he breaks the "rules", Seth finds himself falling in love with Rachel and consequently, life becomes even more complicated.
Quinn said he liked playing the character of Seth. "He learns something, that through these tragedies, you know, there's something that came out of it, a reason behind it, and that there were good things right in front of his face," he said.
Quinn recently starred in such films as "Michael Collins", "Looking for Richard" and "Legends of the Fall".
Courteney Cox said playing Rachel was very different from her role as Monica in the hugely popular United States (U.S.) comedy series "Friends".
"I don't know that I've had the opportunity to play a character with that much emotion...When I was doing "Friends" it was just such an opposite thing for me," she said.
Among Cox's film credits are "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," and "Scream." Anthony LaPaglia currently stars in the courtroom drama series "Murder One" as a high-powered defence attorney. Previous screen credits include "Trees Lounge" and "Bulletproof Heart." LaPaglia said the film's theme touched on how people should appreciate the good points in life. "You should step back, look at what you've got and not just look at what you've got, a lot of it is joyless aquisitions," he observed.
"Commandments" is currently at number 22 in the U.S. box office charts after one week of release. It was directed by Daniel Taplitz. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
