- Story Text: The Gibraltar-based group Vibrations are hoping to break through into the big time with their album "MediterraneanMoods", which is being re-released on August 4.
The album was first released through an independant distributor eighteen months ago and after selling consistently ever since, the major label BMG signed a deal to distribute it.
Vibrations' music is a combination of Spanish, Northern African and Italian influences with traditional rock rhythms.
Led by William Gomez, who began his guitar studies under the tutelage of the legandary Andres Segovia, the six musicians were drawn together by a common interest in arranging works by their favourite composers for an ensemble of three guitars, flute, bass and drums. They also write some of their own songs.
Vibrations got together in 1987. Before they turned professional its members had a wide variety of backgrounds.
Guitarists William Gomez and Richard Gomila used to be teachers, Judah Bensadon who also plays the guitar was a warehouse manager.
Michael Martinez quit the police force to play bass guitar with the band, drummer Victor Francis was a hotelier and flautist Johnny Voctor used to be a banker and radio presenter.
Vibrations have played to capacity audiences in Spain and Morocco and have appeared with artists as diverse as George Benson, the London Philharmonic and Paco de Lucia.
They will be supporting Spanish opera singer Jose Carreras at a concert in Gibraltar in September and are planning a tour of the United Kingdom later this year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
