- Story Text: Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff performed to thousands of enthusiastic fans at Disneyland Paris on Saturday night (July 19), the latest stop on his "Higher and Higher" tour.
Cliff opened the show with "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" - a re-release of his 1969 hit - and kept up the pace with other classics including "The Harder They Come", "Many Rivers To Cross" and "You Can Get It If You Really Want It".
Appropriately, given the Disneyland venue, Cliff also performed the hit from Disney's "Lion King" film - "Hakuna Matata".
Cliff is touring with a new album - "Higher and Higher" - a combination of new songs and remixes of his classic tracks.
The title track is a remix of the Jackie Wilson classic.
New songs include Save Our Planet Earth - a call to save the Brazilian rain forests - and Bob Yu Did Yu Job, a homage to Reggae king Bob Marley.
Cliff described the impetus of the album as a desire to reach a new audience. He believes his music appeals to all age groups.
Jimmy Cliff is one of the originators of the reggae sound.
Since 1962 he has inspired Caribbean music, taking the reggae world by storm with his first hit "Hurricane Hattie".
Cliff signed for Island Records and then moved to Britain.
His first UK album - "Call On Me" - was released in 1966.
Subsequent hits like "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" and "Many Rivers To Cross" became among the best known reggae tunes in the world. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
