- Story Text: Oasis's long-awaited third album "Be Here Now" has had its first full airing in record stores across the country.
Fans eager to be the first to hear the album, released next Thursday (August 21), took advantage of the late opening on Tuesday (August 12) at about 60 Virgin Megastores which played it on in-store radio directly after an 8.30pm embargo.
But at the flagship Oxford Street store in London it was a low-key affair.
About 100 fans sat cross-legged around the store in contemplation of the songs everyone will be humming in a months' time.
The album is already guaranteed huge success, with critics raving about its epic anthems and supercharged rock sound. But fans have to wait until next Thursday before they can buy it.
Their adoration last night was mainly uncritical.
One fan, however, dismissed it as "the same old stuff".
Security surrounding "Be Here Now" has been tight to the point of paranoia, with radio airplay starting just a week and a half before its release and review copies rarer than hens' teeth.
As well, no television cameras were allowed into the store to film fans listening to the album.
Record company Creation seems to want to hold back the inevitable avalanche of publicity about the band.
Radio have yet to be allowed unlimited play of the album, although four tracks were released on Monday night. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
