- Story Text: The newly re-formed rock trio "Genesis" launched its latest album "Calling All Stations" on August 28 with a live performance from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.
The concert was broadcast as a radio special across North America on more than 100 affiliate stations, reaching an audience of more than two million listeners.
The two-hour program was highlighted by an exclusive Genesis interview and a special acoustic performance from the floor of the newly-opened Apollo/Saturn V Center at the Kennedy Space Centre.
The event marked new lead singer Ray Wilson's first North American public performance with the band.
Wilson stepped in as lead singer earlier this year following the departure of long-time front man Phil Collins.
During the concert, the group took their place on a stage in front of an actual 363-foot, 435 thousand pound Saturn V rocket, the type which propelled America towards the moon during NASA's Apollo program from 1968 to 1972.
Still the world's most powerful launch vehicle, it is one of only three remaining in existence.
Wilson joins guitarist Mike Rutherford and keyboardist Tony Banks to form the new Genesis. Rutherford and Banks have been making music together since 1967, but it was 10 years before Genesis, then fronted by Peter Gabriel, scored their first hit single.
Ray Wilson is a 28-year old Scotsman who previously sang for the band Stiltskin. He's been described as "an unknown club singer," despite the fact that as vocalist with that band, he has enjoyed a number one single in the U.K. and the band's only album, 1994's "The Mind's Eye" sold well. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
