- Story Text: After skipping "Speed 2," Keanu Reeves is back in a big budget Hollywood film. This time, Reeves stars opposite veteran actor Al Pacino in the legal thriller "The Devil's Advocate." Both stars attended the film's world premiere in Hollywood on October 13.
Reeves plays Kevin Lomax, a successful young attorney who is recruited to join a powerful international law firm based in New York.
When Lomax and his young wife (played by Charlize Theron) arrive, they are lavished with attention by the founder of the firm, a charismatic, mysterious and powerful man named John Milton, played by Pacino.
But after Lomax commits to his new life, he begins tofind evidence that it is not what he had perceived it to be, and that Milton has a diabolical reason for bringing him into his law firm.
The film's director, Taylor Hackford was drawn to the project by the premise of putting a devilish Faustian tale inside the courtroom, which he refers to as the gladiator's arena of the late 20th century.
His other credits include "Dolores Claiborne" with Kathy Bates, "Against All Odds," and "An Officer and a Gentleman," which earned five Oscar nominations and two Academy Awards.
While Reeves' and Pacino's credits are well-known, Charlize Theron is the relative newcomer to the cast. Her previous credits include the noir thriller "2 Days in the Valley," Tom Hanks' directorial debut, "That Thing You Do," and Jonathan Lynn's courtroom comedy "Trial and Error." "The Devil's Advocate" opens in Britain in January. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
