- Story Text: - Twenty five years ago these rock legends were touring with their band, Led Zeppelin, on a lavish scale with stretch limos, private planes and hordes of groupies.
Two decades and a band breakup later, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page are still on the music scene.
Their arrival in Zagreb, Croatia on Saturday (February 21) however, illustrated how low-key their style has become, a far cry from yesteryear.
Page and Plant arrived in the Croatian capital ahead of their first in a series of European concerts.
The rock duo are touring to promote their co-written album "Walking Into Clarksdale", their second original collaborative work.Their first collection was released 20 years ago in 1978.
Asked why they chose to tour Eastern Europe Plant said it was because so many places had too much entertainment on offer.
"We've still got something to offer and it seems absolute sense to come to places that haven't been absolutely saturated with the whole deal," Plant confessed.
"Walking Into Clarksdale" is an album of all new material written by Page and Plant and follows the pair's million-selling 1994 "No Quarter".
Plant and Page reunited in 1994 to issue the largely acoustic "No Quarter" album which contained several Led Zeppelin songs.
The album, spiced with Moroccan musicians and an Egyptian ensemble, met critical acclaim and the duo went on to tour the world with an Egyptian orchestra.
Their current tour is scheduled to take them to Budapest, Prague, Katowice in Poland, Bucharest, Bulgaria and Istanbul. It will be followed up by a summer tour in the United States.
Speaking at a press conference in Croatia, Plant described their album as "basically four-piece music, with a little bit of assistance".
He also confessed to feeling "hungry and shaky" about touring after a two and a half year absence from being on the road.
"Walking Into Clarksdale" is set to be released by Mercury Records on April 21 1998.
Led Zeppelin ended a highly successful 12-year career in 1980, following the death of their drummer John Bonham.
Guitarist Page and vocalist Plant then embarked upon solo careers until reuniting in 1994 for the "No Quarter" album containing several Zeppelin songs. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
