- Story Text: Just two months after hip replacement surgery Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti is back on his feet and ready to take to the stage again at the official opening of Cologne Arena on Saturday night (October 17) The press conference for the event was the singer's first public appearance since his hip operation.Saturday night's concert will be his first concert, and 18,000 people are expected to attend.
However, he has already had a practice run in front of a smaller, but very special audience. He told journalists that only days ago he sang "Ave Maria" for the Pope.He says that both his voice and his body are in good shape again.
Looking slimmer after losing weight, Pavarotti said he made a big concession to his body in order to sing Saturday night.
The opera star compared himself to an injured football player, saying that sportsmen usually take three to four months to recuperate while he only took two.
Asked about the concert in his hometown of Modena, Pavarotti confirmed it would take place as scheduled on June 1 of next year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
